Gall Bladder Tales....

It started in December.  I woke up in the middle of the night with this incredible pain in my stomach on the right side.  I COULD NOT GET ANY RELIEF.  I crawled into the hottest tub I could stand.  I writhed on the floor.  I cried out to God.  I finally woke Kyle and asked him to take me to the hospital.  We went and they worked me up for a kidney stone.  I was in so much pain.  When we left, the doc said "We don't see a stone, but it had to have been a stone.  Maybe you passed it.".   As exhausted as I was at that point, I accepted that diagnosis and we moved on. A couple of months later, I had 10 people here for dinner.  I suddenly had to excuse myself.  That pain was back.  The feelings of panic, embarrassment, possibly even the feeling that I was over reacting to something that anyone else could have handled much easier... these all overwhelmed me.  I took the only pain meds I had and hid in my bedroom.  2 hours later, I felt at least 50% better and I came out of

Sleeping in!

I've neglected this blog!  I've been too busy building a house, right? Our master bedroom was completed and we spent our first official night here October 21, 2018.  Using cedar fencing that we have been obtaining in Houston from a fellow that puts up fencing across the city, our walls were "free".   The metal in our ceiling of the bedroom was also gifted to us by our old neighbor.  He replaced his roof and had no use for the "rusty old metal sheets".   Good news for us!  Light fixtures were located at Lowe's on the clearance rack- just needed to change the color a little.   Some spray paint and we were good to go! Semi completed product!!  We LOVE it here!! This is my favorite place to sleep in!

One room down!!

One room at a time, right?  Well, we have ONE room done!!  The guest bathroom (read my bathroom since I love a tub more than anything) now has a beautiful floor, a cool ceiling, neat walls, a huge tub, and an awesome vanity and sink.  The flooring will be continued throughout the house with different looks in each area.  Probably solid gray in the hallway,  a combination of colors in the kitchen, not sure about the rest.  It will be pretty though!  Here are the steps we took from start to finish: So we used some wood my mother in law had left over from doing her own bathroom a few years back.  It is western cedar and gives the room a "spa like" feel.   We used  new pine 1x6 tongue and groove for the flooring.  The different colors were stained individually, allowed to dry overnight, and then cut into the floor the next morning.  The floor was  then covered with a special polyurethane just for floors.  2 coats seemed to be about right.   The ceiling is reclaimed

Our journey...finding our home!

A look into our lives... We are a ministry family.  We have lived in rent houses from Hempstead to Albuquerque.  We moved to Anderson in 2008 and landed in a tiny town with almost zero rental property.  Our first home was thankfully soon very close to the church (across the street), but it was really small for a family of 5.  The old 2 bedrooms and 1 1/2 baths was a far cry from the 4000 sq ft Mc Mansion we rented in ABQ just prior to our move.  We stayed there for over a year and moved into an even smaller house a few blocks away.  That move was a fun one...no insulation in the house made for a couple of $600 light bills.  Ah Hill Street...2 bedrooms and only 1 bath.  We were moving in the wrong direction!  At the end of 2009, our church purchased a gutted out old home adjacent to the church property.  We began the process of remodeling/ rebuilding this beautiful home and it was a joy to watch and work on.  3 bedrooms, 2 full baths, a large living area , big and new kitchen, sep
